Character Background
Cody Sager, age 16, is an American boy who has spent little time in one place throughout his life. The son of a US Air Force soldier he has spent the majority of his formative years bouncing around military instillations in different states and countries where his father is stationed.
The constant moving an changing of location over the years have made Cody somewhat of an eclectic person. Never being tied down to one group or activity for long he is something of a popular outcast. Loud but friendly, and always has something to say. His attitude can be a bit Manic, never really sure if he is smiling to be genuine or just to out on the demeanor of "the popular kid."
Cody prefers outdoor activity rather than staying indoors, Hiking, Camping, Biking, Surfing, even Snow boarding have been pastimes of his over the different locale's they have lived in. He has had one constant hobby, he practices karate and the use of martial arts weapons.
His father (Sergent First Class Timothy Sager) has served in the military for 16 years joining shortly after the birth of his son. His job in the Combat Search and Rescue (CSR) field has given him quite a few deployments since 2001 in Afghanistan and most recently in late 2007. His first wife Sara Messenger (Cody's birth mother) divorced him after his first 5 years in the military, when they separated over marital disputes she had fallen into some bouts of drug use and lost custody of her son. Both Cody's mother and father have some wolf blood in them, Though his mother's is noticeably stronger, and of the two she is aware of her lineage. With communication being sparse at best between the two sides of the family Cody has yet to learn anything about this part of himself.
Recently Cody's father met a woman in Japan and has plans to re marry soon. Cody was Enrolled in ISSH international school as an alternative to the DOD school at the air base in Tokyo in order to give him a stable residence place should his father need to deploy again. Cody has gotten to work fast making himself known around the campus talking with many of the athletic team students trying to see if he might join any of them next year.
Life after ISSH.
During his few years in ISSH Cody had become a person who moved from one social group to another often, never really falling into and one category for long. After Haley graduated and left Tokyo he found himself growing a bit more introverted, the Mask of his personality was there but inside he hid himself. Cody's father and mother began having custody issues shortly before graduation at ISSH, when it was resolved the teenager agreed to spend a year back in the US with his mother's side of the family.
No stranger to being moved around Cody felt this time was quite different, he had little patience for people, his mom in particular who had not been in his life much rubbed him the wrong way. Why now did she want him to come live with her. Up State New York was a far cry from Japan that he's become accustomed to. During the winter of his 18th birthday Cody's change began as the week from hell, and later turned into an entire month. He was attacked by wild dogs on what was supposed to be a relaxing trip up to the mountains camping. Everything seemed to be going wrong, he felt sick, miserable, unable to sleep or freakish dreams kept him up late at night or for days on end. This, he thought lead to seeing things while he was awake. His mother seemed concerned but unmoved by the events, keeping an eye on her son more than any real attempt to alleviate what was going on.
Cody's desire, became a need to seclude himself growing stronger over the month until he even fled his home heading back up to the same campgrounds he had before. No moon in the night sky Cody wandered trying to lose himself he wasn't sure just what he had been looking for. Luckily, The spirit world found him instead. His first change left a disoriented young man alone in the wood, but brought a new understanding, disbelief was his first reaction. It wasn't until he came back home that his mother introduced him properly to his relatives. Other members of the Messenger family more familiar with his special predicament. His Uncle (another wolf like himself) became a mentor figure to Cody introducing him to the new world and instructing him in his first years as he grew. Eschewing a tribe Cody couldn't embrace this new world fully. Not that he didn't understand it but deep down he liked the person he was before all this happened. His oath sworn Cody did what any young man lost in the world and looking for direction. Move away from home, New York City seemed iconic enough a place and was close enough to make a home in.
He has been living in the Bronx area of New York since then. At first doing odd jobs and every place that would employ him for a short time while he learned the new reality's of life with a mixed spirit. Later his networking and using the ever changing city Cody work in the parks department, to keep him tied to the area and using what he knows best. The years in NYC changed his personality somewhat, no longer was he the kid running from responsibility. Instead brushes with the supernatural and other wolves helped him remold his role between worlds. His dry wit and sarcastic jokes become a mask to put on when "forced" to deal with the reality of the forsaken.
Cody resides in the west Bronx area, part of a small apartment building occasionally doing the odd repair job in the building for extra cash. It's a modest place, a one bedroom apartment in an aging brownstone. Cody keeps the place fairly clean for a bachelor, furnished in a simple style Cody tries to keep the place looking as mundane and normal as possible. mostly store bought items Cody keeps his personal items and anything that needs to be hidden behind a false wall in his closet. He mainly gets around the city using public transportation but keeps a mid sized motorcycle as a personal vehicle.
