Character Description

Ash is a 6 foot tall american. His long dark brown hair falls loosely around his face and his eyes lazily seem to watch everything. His manner is calm and relaxed and he dresses likewise, often wearing a dark, loose jacket and jeans. (BP 1, Presence 2, Humanity 7)

Character Background

Mortal Life:

As a kid, Ash showed a talent for learning early on. In school, he was always the first to learn the subject, though he was impatient to wait around for the other children. He quickly found his way into advanced placement programs and was soaking up everything he could learn.

His little sister was born while he was still in elementary school. Ash was just amazed by this new life that their mother had brought into the world and took to her almost immediately. In growing up, they became really close and she early on showed the same signs he did toward learning skills. She was incredibly inquisitive and he loved answering her questions.

Early on he took to toying with computers, spending a large portion of his time working on them and exploring them. Before long, he was in high school and receiving offers for fully paid scholarships to college.

He was already in his sophmore year of college when the news hit that his sister was diagnosed with cancer. His family did everything they could to pay the medical bills but never had quite enough. The insurance carrier wouldn't cover it and they had to pay out of pocket.

Ash did everything he could to help his family, to help his sister. He plied his skills in any way he could to get more money for the family, doing everything from website design and computer repair to hacking corporate computers. Even with his help they were barely able to stay afloat. Still, he made the effort to regularly take the drive back to their home in Perry, Kansas to visit her when she was home from the hospital.

Embrace:

It was during this time that he was working for a law firm, his college having taken the backseat to making money for his family. He was rising through the ranks in their technical department when he came to the attention of Daniel Edmund, who had a vested interest in the firm.

He saw in Ash the drive and the views that could further the Carthian Movement and sought to embrace him so that he could further their goals. He moved quickly to meet him and investigate him, growing only more impressed as he saw his academic background.

However, he never gave Ash the choice of the embrace, rather he took him and only explained afterward. While the mere act left Ash feeling violated, he took to the new world like he took to the old one, only this time with the drive of finding a way to help his sister.

Post Embrace:

He studied with his sire, but still did everything he could to support his sister. It tore at him that he couldn't see her as much as he wanted after his embrace, but he still continued to visit her briefly during the middle of the night.

Then the other shoe dropped.

Their parents died in a car accident about a year later, leaving his sister no-one in the world but her brother.

He struggled at first to make things work and try to get her the medical attention she needed, but he wasn't able to do even half as much as their parents had. Being as smart as she was, it wasn't long before he had to break the masquerade and tell her everything, but she promised never to tell.

Eventually her condition grew worse and worse, and without medical attention, death seemed to be coming fast. With no other choice, he did what he dreaded doing the most. He fed her his blood, ghouling her and in the process stopping the cancer so long as he kept her this way.

Unfortunately, there was no way to keep her this way without someone figuring things out and breaking the masquerade. They quickly planned out a trip out of the country, choosing Japan due to a hacker friend out there, let alone their shared addiction to anime and manga.
