Chic, Metropolitan and filled with things you can't see anywhere else in the world. New York is the big apple and a city that never sleeps which is just fine with its Kindred inhabitants. New York City is a major world center of trade, manufacturing, transportation, finance, communications, fashion, TV, publishing and culture, and it is the headquarters of the United Nations. It is a 24/7 monument to America at it's urban best and worst. If you want it, it has it: from elite to simple.

It is a Mecca of industry and a slice of the past at the same time. New York City is a hub for an enormous amount of travel in and out of the country and contains many smaller international neighborhoods. A day in NYC can start off with French breakfast, work in a sky scraper, lunch in little Italy, shopping in China town, a night in a downtown night club and end with 4am coffee at a chic coffee bar. NYC itself is one merely one city, instead it is comprised of the five boroughs: Manhatten, Brooklyn, Staten island, Queens and the Bronx. Each of the five boroughs that make up New York City has the same boundaries as the county in which it lies. This is a city of islands, with only one borough, the Bronx, on the mainland. Manhattan and Staten Island are on separate islands, and Brooklyn and Queens are on Long Island. All five boroughs are connected by a complex system of tunnels, bridges, and ferry-boat lines. Manhattan is the focal point of the main road and railway systems. The commercial airports serving the city are in Queens and Newark, New Jersey.

NYC has the title of one of the largest cities in the world and the largest city in the United States. The city's population exceeds 8.3 million people, the metro area is more than 18.8 million people. In the world of darkness that means NYC should house about 190 vampires, 85 in city proper. This number of vampires is comprised of Staff run NPC's, player and staff run PC's and faceless NPCs that make up not only the other vampires in the area, but also the mass of humanity.

While geography is not destiny, the fact that most of NYC is located on islands has had a profound influence on its history. It is located at the mouth of the Hudson River on the Atlantic Ocean, in the extreme southeastern part of the state. Almost all immigrants to the United States entered the country through New York City---and many of them stayed here. There are still thousands of persons here from all parts of the world. Many are from European countries but there are sizable numbers from the West Indies, South and Central America, the Middle East, and eastern Asia. More Puerto Ricans and more Jews live in New York City than in any other city in the world. New York City also has a larger black population than any other United States city.
