Guidelines and Restrictions
What is restricted or banned? * Striking Looks, Sexualized, multiple derangements, excessively traumatized characters, and more than three combat oriented items. * Characters under 18 are restricted, Characters under 16 are banned. * Banned Concepts: Government Agents, Police, Assassin, Mercenary, Sniper, Serial killer, Ass-Beater, Former Hitman (or anything similar, no combat related concepts of any sort are permitted.) What does Restricted and/or banned mean? Not everything is acceptable for every game, the Storytellers must pick and choose what is right for their own game environment. Based on how the game has run for us during the years, we have selected things that are not acceptable. Those things are either referred to as banned or restricted. There is a big difference between the two. Banned simply means that something is not allowed for any reason. Restricted means that either the specific thing has been abused in the past, has become too cliched or overused, is simply not right for this game environment, or more likely has become something that we as Sts preferr to know you are capable of as a player before giving it to you. So in order to get a restricted item we require a character background and a good reason.
How do I get a restricted item? As stated above, the only thing required to get a restricted item is a good reason in a good character background. We want to see that not only you understand what that item is, but also you have a decent reason why your character needs to have it. If it is restricted it will be based on a "need to have" basis only. Also keep in mind, only 1-2 restricted items (with good reason) will be approved on any given sheet. Concept Concept is a very important aspect of character creation. Generally concepts should be a 1-3 word phrase that idealizes what the character was in their mortal life. Some exceptions can be made at ST discretion. A concept is not a job description; Primogen-to-be, Hound and Malkovian are not real concepts. The books give various examples, if you have any questions please ask in #help. In order to keep a sense of realism and to tone down combat in the game, concepts that are cliched and combat-oriented will not be approved. Examples of Concepts that will NOT be approved are listed at the top of the page. The STs reserve the right to ask you to change the concept if they feel it is inappropriate for the game. Any character whose only point (or main point) is to kill other characters, will not be approved. Characters are not allowed to previously have had a status posistion or have a sire, grandsire etc. who is a status posistion, without ST approval first. Putting on your character sheet does not make it approved, you must specifically ask us and justify it.
How many Characters Can I play? Currently there is a max of 5 characters allowed in the game, but there are some rules and restrictions for that. First we ask all new players to start with one character for at least a week and see how it works out for them before making a secondary character. Second, there are some technical requirements for having a second character. Basically you are allowed five slots. The slots are designed to allow you 1 character from each of the allowed game systems. Those systems include: Unlimited Slots: Vampire, Werewolf, Changing Breed, or Mortal based characters (wolf blooded, ghoul, psychic, thaumaturge, skinchanger etc). Limited Slots: Hunter the Vigil, Immortals and Infernal. Please note: We strictly limit vampires and ghouls to a max of 2 each, not more than 3 VtR characters total. You may play a ghoul for another PC, but you may not play your own regnant. You also may not embrace your secondary characters and in general we would like it if you kept them somewhat seperate. We will not allow you to teach your secondary characters anything, for any reason or in general do anything to benefit your own character beyond a casual role-play degree. If you cannot handle this rule, your secondary character(s) will be removed. Please Note: New players are required to play a mortal first, and are not allowed to have multiple characters until they have played here a minimum of one week. This is to ensure that new players are able to integrate into the game and learn how things work here, rather than starting off with something specialized and become frustrated because their character isn't working out in the game. Please read this article on first characters for more information!
Character Background All characters are required to write a short background regardless of age. The minimum requirement for characters under thirty is one paragraph. Characters over Thirty must write at least three paragraphs. More information on how to write your character background can be on the page listed below.
Inactivity: Erase Dates Characters that are not properly set on vacation mode (meaning you come and talk to us or note us you will be away for a while) that go inactive for 30 days will be erased due to inactivity. The last day you rped will be the date your 30 days is counted from, not the last day you feed or sit in #ooc. More can be found on erase dates and other related information here.
